xavier rudd
a great way to spend a tuesday night is jumping and smiling at a sold-out orange peel while xavier rudd plucks and bangs and blows on his gadgets and sings about peace and love in a real real real way.

myxosarcoma
she said if the tumor comes back the options are either radiation or another surgery with more 'aggressive' tissue removal. the closest place for dog radiation is in south carolina and he'd have to go back several times. i told her i would not have him radiated. i said i'd think about more aggressive surgery. she said it would be months or a year before the tumor came back and i said i'll monitor it & let her know.
because of the seromas and stitches he has been housebound for weeks now. he hasn't even gone for a walk around the block. i guess he's happy enough going from dogbed to dogbed but it seems like that's no life for a dog.
i think if it comes back, i'm not going to have him go through surgery again and i'll just let him go. you know?
i love you dog.

practicing confrontation
he paused as i needed to walk on the sidewalk he was spraying
me: you know we're in a terrible drought?
him: (yelling) people should not be allowed to smoke on the street!
me: don't you have a broom? this is so irresponsible and greedy.
him: (glare)

asheville gear stolen!
September 12, 2008
Dear fans, family, and friends,
Please forward this to everyone you know in Asheville NC....
So we played at show at the Garage at Biltmore last night in Asheville NC and had to leave our bus there because our fuel filter needed changing (and we were going to cange it in the morning) long story short...someone (or people) stole gear from our bus and below is a list of what it was. The worst thing about it is our lighting guy, Brian, had his recording gear from which he makes his living off of (valued at $8000) stolen. It was probably stolen between 3:30 and 8am. If you have any information about the gear below please email or call me as soon as possible. Luckly we still have all our instruments and lights so the tour will go on as scheduled with the exception of our alley katz show in Richmond VA tonight (9/12) which has been canceled so we can deal with this issue.
Stuff that was stolen
1. Brand new Red Ibenez Artcore Hollow body guitar, double humbuckers
In a epiphone case, semi scratched. Pocket Rocket headphone amp inside in console with $300-500 cash in it.
2. Macbook Pro silver. 15 inch. Not even a year old. Little bit of a dent on right front corner. In a foam silver and black gun case.
3. Macbook Black. Little beat up. One scratch in the middle of the screen.
4. Sound Devices 442 four channel mixer - Black
5. Sound Devices 744T four channel recorder – Silver
6. Schoeps condenser microphone w/ GVC & Cut 1 – silver
7. Audio Technica condenser microphone –Black
8. Sony 7506 Headphones – very used
9. Sony Cybershot camera 8.1 megapixels -silver
Total value approx. $12,000

building model bridges
well it's that day again, september 11, seven years later now. time to honor some big lights that were snuffed and pray and work extra hard for peace.
and peace starts with flicking someone in the face with balsa woodsticks.

come together with your hands
if you are looking for a handmade, one-of-a-kind present for somebody or yourself, might i suggest a spoon made by Wormwood Creations?
the spoons are super-high quality, made from an eastern red cedar tree branch that fell in my friend Estes' mother's yard about 10 years ago, and he has put hours and hours into making the smoothest, finest, most functional spoons you could imagine. they are simply beautiful.
he sells them sometimes outside the Grove Arcade downtown asheville, and is glad to take orders by email or over the phone.
if you give a spoon to somebody (your brother), you might get a message saying 'thanks for the spoon, i can't wait til i have kids so i can hit them with it!"
here is Estes booting ball last week while holding his 1-year old niece.

koozies float easy to swim with
somebody found this photo today of overbite nacho and grace on flickr with a google search of "do koozies float"
i want to say yes they do, and they are great for dogs so they can swim back with their mouths closed instead of wedged open with a ball and all the water splashes in and they choke.
and for koozies go to vintage vantage or check out your friend who makes drinking fun again - frosty beer man
physics partners
my freshman year in college i had to take a science class, so the one that seemed easiest was physics for non-majors. this was the lab. the guys were lab partners but did not plan to match.

holden is recovering like a champ. here he's posing with his new bird feeder that his wonderful great-grandmother (he calls her "Drezza") sent this week. it has a black lab under an umbrella with a bird on its head. i haven't gotten bird seed or a wire to hang it from yet, so it is hanging in the kitchen for now.

one-way radio
my deductive reasoning says there's something down at our servers in LA
i sent them a couple emails that probably didn't go through, and i sent a message through the contact form on their site so i am sure they know there's a problem
it's so strange to be at a computer and able to see every webpage (other than those 4) and not be able to retrieve emails. i am sure there have been messages sent to me in the last day, but whatever could they be?
i hope they are all being queued someplace so i can get them later
and i hope it is sooner than later
how did i survive before cyberspace?

summoning of the vibes
at this time tomorrow, holden should be back to his lithe slinky cheetah-chest self. please cross your paws for him.
UPDATE -
thanks for all the paw crossing - holden made it through! they're going to keep him overnight because a few of the bigger tumors were attached (she used the word "fingers") to his muscles and he's extra sore and on an IV painkiller until tomorrow morning when i can pick him up.
prima facie
has a gray handlebar mustache
waxed up to points curving under
apple cheeks
he looks jolly but he's not
maybe he's sick of people asking
about it (i didn't)
or not asking about it
or expecting him to be jolly
because of his facial hair

holey hell
1. at my checkup in june i had a brand new hygienist, it was her first day
2. she used the new 'diagnodent' laser machine to test teeth for cavities before she cleaned my teeth
3. you're supposed to use it AFTER cleaning the teeth
4. i have never had pain or sensitivity in any of my teeth at all, but they diagnosed me as having SIX cavities
5. i had the top 3 drilled and filled last week
6. they filled it with plastic containing BPA - the cancerous ingredient in baby bottles and water bottles and that whole mess
7. afterwards i asked how long they should last - like 15 or 20 years? and the hygienist laughed & said no only about 5 years
8. they charged me close to $1000 for all this
9. there's icy hot deep nerve pain every time i chew on the left side
i'm fairly furious about a lot of this, and i have cancelled my october appointment to get the bottom three 'cavities' filled. they want me to let them drill holes into my unpainful/unsensitive teeth, fill them with cancerous/dementia-causing plastic, charge me a thousand bucks, and get me to come back and re-fill them in some goddamn emergency situation when they fall out in the next five years for another $300 a tooth? are you fucking kidding?
my dentist is going to check it out today but i may need a root canal now in the painful tooth, this is all so ridiculous.

kickball
kickball in asheville is a lot different from kickball in san diego. it is much more laid back, there are no set teams, 2 new captains pick boy girl boy girl from whoever shows up every time. there are babies on the field. there are no uniforms or cleats or refs. it is absolutely just as much fun.
i tried to spread the catching technique of 'the tuckoop' yesterday. when a pop fly is coming, get in a tuck/scoop position, and finish with 'squeeze the pillow.' there's no reason to fear the big red ball!

follow thru
going to get holden a blood test to make sure he's clear to have surgery next week. i finally got a tax refund yesterday and have money and his tumors are getting really big. he has about 8 now, two are as big as if his testicles regrew on his chest, and one is the size of a big mac. the other 5 are small like grape or cherry tomatoes.

drought
when stepping outside
to see if the dark sky
might get darker
and wash us all with rain
and soak us all with rain
or if again today
these stone gray puffed castles
will glide march overhead
with slightest far off rumbles
refusing still to cry
