another thing about tubing - holden & nacho were confined to this porch of the cabin 99% of the time because they are bad dogs. in the 2 minutes of freedom they had, holden dove headfirst downhill ravenously attacking the dirt where someone dumped fat from a grill, and nacho pooped in the river.
do i need a pocket shredder to shred my receipts?
went tubing down the green river near saluda, nc this past weekend.
stayed in a tiny cabin with 4 people and 4 dogs and had a blast. it wasn't too fast but there were definitely small rapids. what's not to love about psychedelic smores, lemon thyme summer salad, and a case of pbr.

sometimes there's too much joy to be contained in just one dog
my brother chris got married to an absolute sweetheart angela this weekend in newport rhode island. everything went amazingly well - the weather, the food, the happy families and friends - i can't imagine a more beautiful wedding weekend. they got married twice, once inside st. gregory's, the catholic church where chris & i were baptized, and the next day at the inn at castle hill overlooking the water with sailboats in the background. it was all pretty freakin awesome.
this is a picture of their first meal as husband and wife at the fine dining eatery jigger's in east greenwich. all the pictures are here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/skippyhaha/sets/72157621749269662/
should you ever find your kitchen overrun by fruit flies, i don't suggest trying to swat them all with a fly swatter. they are too small - they can escape through the wires of the swatter, and they are too fast - they scoot away.
this plastic wrap-glass trap works like a charm, though.
1. put apple cider vinegar in glass
2. cover with plastic wrap
3. poke a dozen holes in plastic wrap with toothpick
4. flies get in but can't find their way out
another suggestion i read on the internet is to put a rotting banana in the oven with the door open overnight. the flies attack the banana. early in the morning sneak in the kitchen and close the oven door before they can escape. turn the oven on to 425.
like silence of the lambs - quid pro quo
you want honey?
kiss your brother.
me: that firework looked like a boob! flesh colored with a red circle inside.
he: they all look like boobs, actually. just different colors.
what do you love about botox? the giant needle? the botulism toxins that freeze your facial tissues? the way it makes you look like you're carved from wax?
if i had the chance i would absolutely fire the persons responsible for designing and ordering this craptastic makeup bag.

somebody should call somebody
happy father's day! hope everybody's weekend was spectacular. i learned many things:
1. if nacho has to go to the bathroom and there is no door open, he will relieve himself on the carpet.
2. a mixture of white vinegar and heavy duty carpet cleaner will get this up.
3. the UNCA campus is bursting with echinacea right now.
4. the 'savory crepes' from the first tent at the UNCA farmers market are gigantic and totally delicious.
5. if you bring empty growlers back to pisgah brewery they will not fill them up with anything you want from the taps. they will take the empty & give you a $5 discount on another already filled growler though.
6. if two full growlers knock into each other on a sharp van turn, one may explode into shattering glass and an atomic mushroom cloud of foamy brown ale before settling into the 1993 teal carpet.
7. if nacho has to go to the bathroom and there is no door open, he will relieve himself on the carpet.
8. a mixture of white vinegar and heavy duty carpet cleaner will get this up.
9. lucero sounds like dropkick murphys from the dirty south.
10. i am surrounded by good people and dogs.

phish at the asheville civic center last night was a great time. extreme amount of energy put forth by the band and the crowd was full and fired up. the light show was like nothing i've ever seen, completely dialed in. they ran out of beer before the second set. the male to female ratio had to be 20-1. there were tons of uniformed cops everywhere in the streets and throughout the civic center but the atmosphere was intensely positive.

went to the asheville people's market today to sell stash jars and so much happened. shared space with lydia who did a collaborative participatory community art project where people mostly kids dropped flowers and snakeskins and pennies and other treasures on an ancient windowpane and she pours clear resin over it and it all floats as if in glass. had lovely visits with l&m in wigs, ashevillein & daughter with spiral walking stick, gritgoods & photobug fred, shadmarsh with a sweet tot, and zenography whose duct tape wallet bought the crown jewel in the stash safe collection - the striped together pb&j laura lynn. i sold a few safes, haggled with a pickled woman, bartered for a bag of fruit salad, good times were had by all & i will go back to this market to sell or to browse on free sundays, it goes until october.
oh that crazy bitch joyce! i hope she's reunited with her family.
woke up tuesday and my computer had a virus. it was a fake virus scanner box that popped up. i tried to run virus removal from symantec and windows defender and after babysitting the machine for a few hours while it scanned every file i have, i restarted and the virus popped up again. so i took it to charlotte street computers. the nice guy called last night and said the hardware is fine but it's infected and it will be at least $160 and i should have it back by friday if all goes well and there's no way to rush it. i've been going to goodwill gathering vintage taking photos of a mannequin and going to the library to check emails. pretty frightening how i am so tied to having a computer with the internet. i love technology, but not as much as you you see, but i still love technology, always and forever

"The Asheville People's Market will be open every Sunday, June through October from 11am to 4pm in the Parking Lot across from Rosetta's Kitchen (Broadway's, Nova, the Emerald Lounge, and TV Eye) at 93 N. Lexington Ave. Parking is available near the Food Lion skate park and under the 240 overpass bridge, and on the street on Lexington Ave.
In the spirit of the markets of the world and the generations, i proudly introduce, The Asheville People's Market. It is a flea-market style place to buy art, crafts, and homemade items from Asheville artists as well as bartering for and haggling over for yard sale items, lost treasures, and other peoples un-loved functionals. It is also the place for spending a social Sunday shopping outside of the typical consumer loop.
So bring the kids, the old folk, a sun hat, a few bucks, and come on down to see what treasure you might dig up and what necessities you can skip at the big box stores! Keep it local, Keep it real!
Vendor spaces will be available for 10$, on a first come first serve basis and are open to arts, crafts, handmades, and personal used yard sale and flea market items. We will judge re-sale vendors and informational tables on a individual basis. For more detailed information, or any questions or comments, please e-mail me at rosettastarshine@gmail.com
Whooo Hoooo, this will be so much fun!
Love, Rosetta Star"
this about sums it all up
avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit...
beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself...
Usually the different one make people more interested (God is so fair) like you say Nacho have smaller head and lighter weight but God give Nacho more charm that make you easily fall in love to him ^ ^. I feel Nacho charm too like I said I love his sweet look....
"the more you try to have your cake and eat it too, the crumbier it gets"
pearl baptist church, iron station, north carolina
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_one's_cake_and_eat_it_too says:
"The reversal of this expression helped in the identification of the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. In the Unabomber's "Manifesto", it was written and signed "...you can't eat your cake and have it too. To gain one thing you have to sacrifice another." His brother David Kaczynski was able to identify Ted after reading the "Manifesto". Ted and their mother both used the more accurate but older and less popular use of the phrase."
i'm with the unabomber, it makes more sense to me saying "you can't eat your cake and have it too." either way, it's crumby, and i want both.
another from day in the life of asheville
one from the real ditloa. self timer baby!
from noon today until midnight tomorrow is 'day in the life of asheville' where i go around taking pictures of everything for a city-wide project. http://www.flickr.com/groups/ditlo-asheville/
this photo is not one from today but it's a scene from my life this week. so far today i've taken photos of washing the dogs and going to greenlife. hopefully i'll get some shots of porch sitting, the post office, farmers market, and superpreppy birthday party tomorrow to round out the excitement. i hope everybody has a great memorial day weekend and says thank you to the fallen soldiers who have laid down their lives for our freedom.

if you're ever invited to a rib cookoff, GO!
the truth is you don't want to hear my stories, you want me to ask you about the best parts of yours.
may all you lovely ladies who care for younger beings be pampered and appreciated all day today! mothers make the world go round! holden & nacho just gave me a gift card to the carwash where i can finally vacuum the mounds of dog fur out of the trunk carpet - score!
i just had awesome dinner with two fantastic friends, tomorrow i'm going to new orleans for jazz fest, all's well and i am highly grateful.
my birthday is coming up, and i've gotten some very nice cards in the mail. i am pretty sure my mother thinks my birthday is today, since today was my due date.
i find it amazing that my aunt jojo and my mom have almost identical handwriting. they are both very neat and classically beautiful letter-formers. their other sister writes nothing like this, and neither do/did their parents.
is penmanship nature or nurture?
this weekend has been excellent. other than when there were 5 dogs in the backyard and holden the mad scavenger took the opportunity to sneak off and run away down the street. i walked down yelling his name and a guy came on his stoop and said "black dog?" i said "YES!" he said "eating the compost in back?" i said "YES!"
please take a second and wish my mom luck in her bridge tournament today. she won a big tournament last week, in her own words: "It was a regional tournament at the Sheraton in Smithtown, We won one of the bracketed (handicappped) knock-out competitions. It was so much fun. Will play again all day Sunday in a Swiss team event."
go bridgemaster joycie!
