Behind the T-shirt: Uncle Sam's Nightclub

Uncle Sam's was a disco nightclub chain in several US cities from the mid 70s to the late 80s.

There were clubs in Houston, Detroit, Providence, Levittown, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Des Moines, and Syracuse. At least. There were probably more.

Uncle Sam's - "Let's Spend the Night Together"

Shiny Happy Customers Night in Buffalo looks like fun.

Shot of the Minneapolis merch table in 1977. T-shirts cost $3.99!

This 70s Uncle Sam's t-shirt seems to be from 1976. It's in great shape and ready to do the hustle. Check it out at Skippy Haha Vintage Etsy now!

WTF Wednesday: Food Raps, Football Bunny, Stripper Spaniel

Good morning, Wednesday! Good morning, WTF!

Let's begin with a music video some friends made for a rap project called Food Raps - they rap about food. This may not be appropriate for the very young or the very sensitive: South of the Border

Featuring  Chad Galactic, Vitamin D (Dave Brogan of ALO), and animated by Josh Clark (Tea Leaf Green) - there's a whole lotta WTF goin on there. I hope their next food rap is about nuts, because that's what they are.  An entire CD filled with food raps may be found here.

Moving on to vintage WTFery, here's a quarterback bunny, with holes cut in the helmet for his ears.

rabbit football

Another totally normal Easter-inspired figurine.

A very old jewelry box with a cocker spaniel who appears to be stripping? A mink stole?

Last but not least, a pair of cats in a blanket.  Watching you, always watching you.

KZOM Zoom 104 1/2 T-shirt

I recently came across a vintage 70s to early 80s soft thin t-shirt with this logo:
KZOM
Zoom 104 1/2

https://www.etsy.com/listing/246302159/vintage-70s-t-shirt-kzom-1045-fm-radio

Which led me to this youtube of KZOM's final sign off in 1984, Richard Jones playing The Who's "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay."

KZOM-FM 104.5 (ZOOM 104 1/2) was an Album-oriented rock radio station that served the Orange/Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana areas from 1978-1984.

(Aircheck, Photos and station logos by Larry King)

looked like a pretty cool station. RIP KZOM 104.5.

WTF Wednesday: 60's Knit, Crochet, and Polka

Bienvenidos a WTF Wednesday! Fiesta!

Let us begin with a couple of early 70's Polka records.

Sing, Dance, Drink with the Michigan Polka-Tels. And a portrait of their Godfather.

George Poole and his Polka Dots.

 Oom pa pa!

Next let's discover the excitement of Hairpin Lace in this 1967 crochet pattern magazine.

Her toe is extremely excited.

The vest frees up his arms for quick clicks.

Without the vest, she's staying at home Saturday night. But with the vest...

Exactly like Mandarin China.

So snuggly, so manly.

Ace that job interview with an afghan granny knit necktie!

This family is my spirit animal.

Last but not least, here's a little sugarshark tooth:

WTF Wednesday: Fallen Tree, Crouching Unicorn

Good morning, Wednesday! Good morning, WTF-ery! Let's scratch our heads.

First here are some weather-related WTF's.

A major storm blew through here and knocked a neighbor's white pine tree across our driveway yesterday.

pine tree down on driveway

The rain gauge had a field day - 2.25 inches in 24 hours!

WTF!?

Now a couple more vintage record albums:

Looks like a normal 60's religious singing record, but with an Indian twist. Her dress is slightly Bollywood, and the scene is definitely Eastern, but her hair is 100% Mississippi Gospel. Barbara Maharaj.

WTF?

This lovely family donned matching rodeo gear, sat in a pasture, and looked longingly at roses. JL and the Country Squires - Living in the Present and Loving (roses) in the Past.

WTF?!

Here's a nice example of rustic native art:

Koko the coco gorilla?  WTF?!

Finally here's a ceramic unicorn. What is he doing? Dying? Kneeling? Sharpening his horn?

WTF?!

WTF Wednesday: Vintage Album Edition

Hello Wednesday, hello WTF!

Welcome back to the day of the week where we marvel at the depths of human randomness. This week will be short but sweet as I am working on a Vintage Halloween Costume post that should go live this afternoon. In the meantime, let's WTF, vintage record album style!

Here's a bejeweled Rita Coolidge looking fine, sensually touching a wall. But hold up! The lady's not for sale.

For sale? In the Indecent Proposal sense of the word? In the "How much is that doggy in the window" sense of the word?

WTF?!

Next we find the Shifflett Family.

Better than Ever. I don't know where to begin. So I will not.

Last but not least we have the Happy Hearts Quartet.

I hope their singing is better than their math.

WTF?!

WTF Wednesday - 4.0

Welcome back to WTF Wednesday, the day reserved for celebration of the whacky and the wild.

My vintage shopping has been drastically curtailed of late by an un-house-broken puppy, so pickins are kinda slim this week.

But still, there is always some WTF: here we have a man so dedicated to weeding the front yard, yet so allergic to poison ivy, that he dons a tyvek hazmat suit to garden.

you can order tyvek suits for under $10 each on amazon. they withstand branch and briar sticks. they seem to repel poison ivy, too.

next we have a video that is bursting with FUN. it may make you scratch your head and say "huh?" or it may make you sell your belongings and go on ALO tour.  "Falling Dominoes" (Official Music Video) - made by the indomitable Guadalajara Joe.

now here's a confusing vintage t-shirt i found last week:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/200732858/vintage-70s-t-shirt-demi-doctorette

oh seymour, what are you flocking about?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/200732858/vintage-70s-t-shirt-demi-doctorette

is demi a woman's name? or short for half? is a doctorette a nurse? a med student? hmmmmm....

last but not least, giggling pouncey and sugarhoney think that's a real knee slapper.

WTF?
