creepers

to the people who inch up on me at the grocery store self-check out..QUIT IT! can you not wait the extra 5 seconds for me to take my bags, receipt, change, and basket out of the way? must you move up and breathe down my neck while i'm finishing up? wait your damn turn. next one who does it is going to get snapped at like a barking maltese.

I heard an entire segment on a morning radio show on this subject. The female personality took your side of the argument. The male personality took the other side of the argument after finding out she was doing stuff like using coupons and putting change in the machine. By the way I am not picking sides here or accusing you of this. I agree you should give people space. But, I have also been behind some incredibly slow people that should be going through regular checkout. Also, I have had a hand basket very loaded down before and set my things down as people are getting their bags. What is the big deal with this? I am not asking for a hug. I am not even making eye contact or displaying body language. I just want to get the hell out of the grocery store ASAP. I think self-checkout is for inherently impatient people.

i'm with skippy. i can't stand for people to invade my space in any check-out line. i actually asked a lady to back up the other day.

brian, if you put your basket full of combos down while i am finishing off, i will knock it on the floor and bark at you. and hell yes i use change and coupons. coupons only when i'm buying dill relish so i can use the glass jars to fill stash safes and they have the 55 cents off coupons that come out of the shelf right there. then they go from 1.46 to 91 cents and that's a steal. and i am SO FAST at the scanning of my items that even using change and coupons i am still faster than 99% of u-scanners.

Seriously? Putting a basket down on the counter while you are taking bags is a problem? that is like 5 feet away...According to the chart in this article inside of 1.5 feet is intimate space. Inside of 4 feet is personal space. I'll admit it is close. And, I don't always do it unless my arm is killing me from holding it.

If you think putting a basket down while you take bags is bad. I recommend watching this video.

we must not be talking about the same thing. if you put your basket on the side of the self checkout things at ingles while i'm still getting my receipt, you would be within 4 inches of me or closer, intensely in my intimate space. the receipt dispenser is right on top of where you rest your basket. why don't you put your heavy basket on the floor and push it with your foot. seriously. that video reinforces my desire to not go to asia.

Skippy... this post makes me laugh, because my wife has the SAME reaction to people in the supermarket/airport/wherever... It's to the point where it makes me laugh a bit to see her uncomfortably squirm and shoot me glances that say "do you SEE how close this FREAK is behind me?!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY WTF?"

That said, I don't like it much either, just have a higher tolerance for it.

Another funny similarity is that like you, my wife has ZERO desire to visit Asia for a vacation. None. Can't even be discussed.

And to weigh in on the discussion... if someone were to put their bags down on the self scanner station as I was still pulling my receipt and grabbing my bags, I'd DEFINITELY say something. But then again, I'm pretty confrontational. Situations like that are about the only things left that bring out my suppressed NY accent/temper.
