end

all these hurts i didn't intend
all those times i didn't pretend
all my faults i try to defend
all the ways i refuse to bend
all my hands i didn't extend
wonder why it's come to an end

notes from crime & delinquency

here is a note between me and my friend brian hoey back in high school. i think the name of the class we were taking was called 'crime & delinquency' - seriously. the beg-a-thon mentioned in the note was our junior class fundraiser consisting of walking around with cans ("the money can") and getting change. it was wildly successful.

here's the note unadulterated:

and then here's the note with some photoshopped heads:

and here's closeups of some key players-

susan and me:

brian hoey:

another of brian:

beth is also mentioned in the note, but the picture i scanned of her didn't come out.

the end.

they have no cake?

not longing haiku 1-8

they don't even like
me they're just using me to
get into heaven
-jesus

my name was hater
happy birthday heather cake
hombre heard her wrong

overwhelming guilt
crucify me now so that
i can rise again

now i know it all
that no one knew anything
that i thought they did

to make a choice is
death of infinity and
focus on the one

bipolar bear cub
swimming for the surface and
lazing in the sun

jesus is busy
nobody knows my sorrow
swing low & i'll jump

women with big heads
have smaller hips & shouldn't
be having children

longing haiku 1-8

the walls are too high
the windows just a tease when
i can't reach inside

it's too far too long
doomed to repeat play along
everything's all wrong

shake it off again
the end hurts almost as much
as breaking the shell

i can't get my head
around this gift of words you
just dropped in my lap

i want to tell you
all there is to know or could
it be anyone

you are my mirror
identically parallel
at least we're honest

caught in the old web
of too much & not enough
it's all new again

tom petty was wrong
the waiting is the best part
you get it, it falls

jacques-yves cousteau, captain of the calypso, my hero

some of my favorite quotes from The Living Sea-

  • In mutual joy of heading for rare adventure, everyone pitched in where needed.

  • [re: excavating a sunken ancient Greek ship in the Red Sea]: The crest of the mound yielded clusters of small potteries that had been stowed between the necks of the amphorae...[lists items]..., and a ravishing miniature aphora that the ancients used to collect human tears.

  • "To Your Health" inscribed on an ancient Greek mug

  • "Russell said, 'You know sailing on board Calypso is so interesting you lose track of time. One morning you could wake up an old man.' I thought he touched on what we received as compensation for the dire struggles ashore. We were wresting weeks of timelessness from the sea."

  • Calypso carried a 3 ton stainless steel wine tank which amused foreign oceanographers, some of whom travel on wretched craft without a drop aboard. Calypsonians could drink as much as they liked, average daily wine consumption per capita was about a pint.

  • The snake circled around us languidly. The eyes in its incredible pinhead were so small we could not tell whether or not it was interested in us. I maneuvered for a camera position in front of it and motioned for Kientzy to swim into the lens field. He misunderstood and swung his hammer, trying to batter the snake's head into the floor. It was pretty ludicrous to see a man trying to hit an animal amost as fluid as water itself. Yet Kientzy succeeded with a terrible blow near the head. The snake swam nervously away despite the mortal wound. I asked the divers not to attack the snakes.

This last one reminds me of Clark W. Griswold's answer to the squirrel in the christmas tree - CATCH IT IN THE COAT, SMACK IT WITH THE HAMMER!

next

the hunger it insanely aches
race the day as morning breaks
one more hour is all it takes
light brown birds on frozen lakes
full to the top with empty cakes
do it for god & for jesus christsakes
do it for good, for the love that it makes
do it for you it will never be fake
there's nothing to fear while your dreams are awake
throw those dice down like there's nothing at stake
and your voice will be loud & your hands will not shake
and surrounded by love you will pass all your days

we need to talk
