licensed to drive

i went to the dmv bright & early this morning to get a NC drivers license, all prepared to take the 25 question written test but they still had me on file from 4 years ago so all i had to do was read the top line on the vision chart & identify 8 road signs by their color and shape & take a new photo and 20 minutes later i left with my new license. sometimes things just work out.
and i am all the wiser for knowing things like
"Secondary roads" are roads where... hills are more likley to be more steep and curves are likely to be more sharp than on primary roads.

Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit in cities and towns is... 35 miles per hour.

If a vehicle sways freely, leans heavily to one side during a turn or seems to bounce continuously, there may be a problem with the... suspension system.

is it strange driving everywhere instead of just walking or taking public transportation?

when I moved to chicago I attempted to take the eye exam without my contacts--ah the freedom to drive blind at night. After proudly reading all the letters, and feeling pretty confident that I got them all right, the kind lady behind the counter informed me that all the letters were in fact numbers. So--did your eye exam have letters or numbers? or both!?

bjurk that is classic! mine were all letters, i did not use my glasses (which are the wrong prescription and make me crosseyed but letters are clearer), the first two were O S and i wasn't sure if it was 0 5 or 0 3, but i just went with the letters. it was 3 columns, 4 letters in each column, the middle column were very clear, the left and right columns were blurry as hell but i squinted & somehow got them right. or close enough & she let me slide.

kid D, i took a couple years off of driving, say 2003 & 2004 & when i started again it was more than strange, it was bad, i was so rusty &anxious. not about me about the other idiots around me. but i've been driving the past few years now & esp. after the cross country trek a couple weeks ago i'm like roadmaster.
