WTF Wednesday: Trim Twist, $19 Bride, Rockstar Jesus
Bonjour, Wednesday! Bonjour, WTF!
Before there was youtube, people learned how to make things by reading books like the Family Creative Workshop 24 volume set. (1976)
Things such as Candy Wreaths:
And Pulley Cable Glides:
Nothing says "Country" like cufflinks and a director's chair in a wheat field.
Trim Twist was a 1968 exercise fad where CEO's were expected to stand on a 1 foot square lazy Susan and twist.
This one unfortunately warped and no longer twisted.
But if it still worked, a boss and his secretary could twist all day to this kind of music:
Hello clown on stilts holding a puppy in a matching hat.
This beautiful bride was 3 feet tall and nineteen dollars. Priciest thing in the store - you can get a new couch at goodwill for less than that.
Last but not least, a couple of Jesuses. Jesus's blond phase (1942).
And a charcoal drawing of windblown rockstar Jesus.

running bear
and we've got to get ourselves back to the gaaaa-aaaa-aaaa-arden!
saw this little fella stopped in a neighbor's driveway yesterday afternoon. it started running from us, through yards, into the woods.
looked to be young and healthy, about 150 lbs.
we had an encounter in the yard last week with a bear - i was out there throwing the ball for all 3 dogs around lunchtime, sugarhoney stopped in her tracks and started growling, eli blazed past her directly at a big black bear 20 yards away just over a hill, i started yelling for all dogs to come with me back to the house, they followed me, and the bear walked in the opposite direction.
it's a jungle out there!

WTF Wednesday: Bicycle Injury, Sewing with Nancy, Spreadeagle Cherub
Hola Wednesday! Hola WTF!
Hola Raggedy Ann.
1-900-CALL-TEDDY
A sailor with a lemon is a scurvy-free sailor.
Sweet acronym. PRIDE = Preventing Returns Involves Daily Effort. Tell me about it.
A couple tidbits from 1978's Bicycle Digest.
Covering both injured and uninjured eyes can help.
This is wheelie dangerous.
Hey random kids.
An hour of contemporary serging with Nancy.
This reeks of Saturday Night Live.
Last but not least, a spreadeagle cherub.

WTF Wednesday: Old Lovers, Moby Dick, Dog Bite Art, Monkey Testing
Hello Wednesday! Hello WTF!
Let us begin with a whacked out Christmas elf (?), dated 1976.
Hey #1 Mom. And Kristie.
Ashes of old lovers. #neverforget
Teddy bear rides a unicorn bareback.
Here we have a giant beer stein vividly depicting Moby Dick. A hump like a snowhill!
Good old dog bite sculpture.
Lipstick on a pig on a coconut.
Nice scene from a book about fractions.
Here's a different spin on animal testing. Did he say sedative or laxative?

WTF Wednesday: I Love Cows, Butterfly Painting, Creepy Seamstress
Konichiwa, Wednesday! Konichiwa, WTF!
Starting off with a 1967 bunny piggy bank.
Remove his head to get out the coins.
This is no small cross-stitch, at least 3 feet by 2 feet.
Crochet a cover for a foam disk, jam a doll in the center - done!
How NOT to kill your houseplants. Step 1: place right hand in pocket.
Thrift store art, monarch butterfly:
WTF is going on here?
No really WTF.
Last but not least, an upside down frisbee, ragrolled, with shells and aquarium plants superglued on top, that lights up when plugged in.

my friend is on TV!
(technically my friend's sister, but she's my friend, too dammit!)
odd mom out is a new show on monday nights on bravo. written by and starring jill kargman, it's quirky, funny, smart and co-stars the (scene-stealing) newcomer KK Glick.
when i knew KK, she was called kristen. she is the 4 years younger sister of my best friend beth. the first time beth slept over my house in 7th grade, we made an Iroquois longhouse diorama and took screwdrivers around the house tightening all the screws on the light switchplates.
i slept in KK's bed dozens of times from 7th through 12th grade. she and beth shared a room and KK would often weekend nights sleep over a friend's house, leaving a free bed for me to poach. beth and KK have a cool older sister and brother, their brother in particular was himself a friendly allstar athlete and had lots of friendly allstar athlete friends who were always hanging around their house - it was basically heaven for a 15 year old girl, and i slept over there a lot.
back to KK - she was quite a bit younger, but still funny and not annoying - she was into sports and did her own thing with the acting - i remember seeing her do summer music as a little 10 year old kid, singing "Go to Timbuktu!" (Oliver, I'd Do Anything) and 'summer nights' from Grease.
we went on many vacations with her family - woodloch pines in the summer and killington in the winter. i wish i had some pictures that include KK with me here in NC, but instead here's my mom and beth riding in their maroon woody minivan to the poconos.
the only other KK-related photo i have here is this, and this is a sad story which might end up on odd mom out someday - it's KK's christmas present bunny, named Oreo, we kept him overnight at our house for a day or two beforehand to help with the christmas surprise, here he is with my rabbit Barney. i think Oreo lasted about 1 day before he tragically died somehow of natural causes in his hutch. it was probably traumatic for KK. pretty soon thereafter, they ended up getting Murphy, a small white ball of tail wagging fluff who loved to lick.
anyway, i am so proud of KK for following her dreams and landing this amazing role on major Big Time TV. she plays dr. vanessa and is calm and hilarious. she is so much like her real self, it's hard to believe she is acting.
in last week's episode, they said my name! kind of. jill is telling her husband to find love and remarry if she should die first, and she suggests he remarry 'lolly mctammany' - haha! see the 30 second video here: Odd Mom Out
see KK saying funny things:
KK tours Jill's Bedroom

KK Glick's twitter.
KK Glick's instagram.
so maybe check out the show if you like to laugh. i'd like to nominate KK Glick for an emmy.
in her honor, here is a video of van halen "dreams."
and also one of extreme 'more than words.'

WTF Wednesday: Barefoot Danny, Wolf Milk, Say it with Charts
Buenos Wednesdays! Buenos WTFs!
Hello Native American weaver woman.
She's seen better days.
Before there was PowerPoint, there was Say it with Charts:
I agree with barefoot Danny.
You don't need a lawyer, you need this record. Music to break a sub-lease.
What is inside the milk bottle? No really, what?
Too much time focused on the eyelashes, not enough time focused on spelling.
Last but not least, here's a great book of advice from 1987.
